I know some of you probably think this is unnecessary, but quite frankly, I think enough's enough. So here goes.

----------------

Saurin,

Perhaps you know you don't have time for big changes. Heck, I know I don't, otherwise you'd probably have serious competition over at CTG right now. Perhaps you believe that minor bug fixes and improvements to the forums are what we want. I don't think that's really true, though. Perhaps you've found another butterfly to play with, I don't know.

What I do know is that you've made posts in the forums detailing your busy life, claiming to be back. You've promised changes to the site where such changes are needed. You've asked for feedback, and I've sent you perhaps dozens of emails with ideas on how to improve the site. No matter what is said, nothing changes.

I will sum up the problem in one simple statement: You are squandering the relaunch of one of the most significant brands of the digital music scene with your absence.

Using the site for what it was made for, music, is nearly impossible with the slow downs we've been seeing over the past month. Today I downloaded a song at just 15 kb/s, barely 3x the speed of 56k. This wouldn't be such a problem if you didn't restrict the number of threads that can access the site, and the fact that threads randomly die, a problem that has existed since the site's creation. Of course, playing a song online could help alleviate such problems, but then again songs that have been reuploaded can't be played online because of a bug that has existed since reuploading was put in. You've mentioned you need help paying for the site's costs, but you either need to start advertising on the site, or you need to get a donation button going.

I've sent you a list - a long list - of songs that have copyrighted material in them. You've acknowledged to me that you don't want these songs on the site, yet you haven't done anything about it.

Artists continue to receive poor reviews, and it has gotten to the point that many people - including myself - have disregarded the reviewing system. It is not important to us, because it is so flawed, there is no telling if your next review is going to come from someone who takes reviewing seriously, or thinks it is a joke, or just wants to leave a "Hey, nice song." comment and doesn't realize a review's not the place to do it. On top of this, we can't do anything about bad reviews once received. They are a permanent scar on our songs, and cause people who might be interested in the site to perhaps turn away. Something big needs to be done.

How to fix this? If you can't find time, find someone that has time, or turn over the work to the community. There are a whole lot of people interested in seeing TiS be successful, and it pains us to see the site go neglected for long periods of time like this. It's not going to be easy to get started, but I can almost guarantee you that once things do get going, this site will be a much better place for it.

Please, on behalf of the Trax in Space community. Do something.

I've messaged Saurin on a few occasions to offer my services to help on the site. More recently, I've offered to head up a new ROC - and I've never heard anything back about it, or the other times I've offered my help.

The last thing I want to see is for TiS2 to have all been in vain. I love this place and all the people connected with it, it was my first stop in 1998 when I entered the scene, and it will always have a special place for me - but I dont want to see it in the shape its in now, I want to see it flourish, which it so rightly deserves too, PROVIDING things can get done on the site. Saurin, I understand you are busy - BUT people are offering their services to help the site, please dont ignore them.

Interesting read Roncli. I find the following to be an interesting little passage:

"You've mentioned you need help paying for the site's costs, but you either need to start advertising on the site, or you need to get a donation button going."

Based on the lessons from TiS1, why is there no hint of a businessmodel for TiS2? I'm not talking about some evil scheme to make profit from the site (that would be pure evil, I tell ya. Evil!), but it seems to me that the issue of the site's sustainability should have been considered at the outset. This is not a problem that should come to exist less than a year after the launch of the site.

I had such a good time on the old site, and I would love it if this new version could recapture some of that magic. TiS has so many good things going for it, it just needs some commitment!

+1 for me too.
Trax in Space symbolizes my development as an artist, and I owe a lot to it. Is there anything we can do to help?

+1 from me as well. This site needs some more help. I'm no good at coding any of the newer web speak (I'm solid on HTML 3.2 though ). I would like to try my hand at reviewing the reviews, especially since I've seen more that qualify as comments than actual reviews...and I've already seen a couple that should be removed due to their malicious nature.

I juuust missed TiS the first time around. I don't want the sequel to disappear now that I know what all the fuss was about.

I couldn't have said it better.

Saurin, your website is my favorite website and I would like few things more right now than to see it successful.

Saurin, give a couple of enthusiasts access to the code and let them fix at least minor bugs.

Definitely! I'd love to get my hands dirty fixing up a couple of issues. Remember your idea about open-sourcing it?

TIS is more than a community. TIS has become a second home, and the members of it are brothers in sound. Friendship through music creates a tight and strong bond. This is a place to give and receive, to Share and be part of. To improve TIS, Space Walk is at your service.

Saurin, we're not saying these things to complain.

We're saying these things because we like what you've done here, and we're ready to HELP you do MORE.

Right now, TiS2 is good. It COULD be GREAT.

But first, you need to answer an e-mail or two.

Tired of people wanting you to update and maintain a site you made as a lark?

Annoying masses expecting you to keep up a website you pay for and let them use for free?

Shocked that people actually like what you did and now dismayed that you may have to volunteer some more of your personal time to maintain it?

ZONEALARM Presents HUMAN BIO-FIREWALL Products for Web Admins!!!!

Become blissfully ignorant of all your sites users overnight!!! Emails will not reach you, instant messages bounce back from nothingness, even direct pings are answered with silence.

Relax and enjoy the fact that you got a lot of people excited for nothing hahahahah most excellent

If only there was a paypal button somewhere I'd be hitting it frequently. If you can't spare a dollar every now and again what are doing connected to the internet? I don't believe in buying points as is the case at osmusic.net but I would give a dollar or so every time I uploaded a couple songs. If everyone honored this it would be more than ample to make it worth your time.

I was very hopeful for the new TIS because although I wasn't an active participant in the original site I found much inspiration from it. I would be interested in being an Official reviewer for TIS if that ever happens.

This is my 2 cents and I hope at least it's worth a dollar.

Even though I do not come here that often, I did notice the points ron noticed in his letter.

Therefore I want to speak out my support here...

And yes, I do think this place needs a ROC....
I basically am available, though I do not know if I'm the right person for that.
