I'm an Honours Computer Science student at the University of Western Australia. As well as writing music, I offer professional web, print, and other media design services.

My first foray into tracking was back in 1996, using ModEdit. My music languished for a while, until many years later I discovered ModPlug Tracker, which, as OpenMPT, is still my preferred tracker.

I was actively involved with the MegaZeux (game creation system) community for a while, which really encouraged my music. I would write (bad!) games, and then write pieces to go with them. Fortunately, none of these ever saw the light of day...

With the introduction of VSTs to MPT, my music really began to take off, as I discovered new effects and instruments that broadened my musical horizons substantially.

Near the start of 2007, I bought Native Instruments' excellent Kontakt2. For the first time, I could achieve the orchestral and pop sounds that I had always heard in my head. Every track that I've written since purchasing Kontakt has used it, often exclusively. It's definitely the best investment I've ever made.

=> NOTE: I've just uploaded the source files for all my tracks. They're best viewed with OpenMPT 1.17.02.52 or above. Although you won't have the same VSTs as I do, you'll at least be able to see how I put it all together. :) Happy fiddling! (And remember, they're *mine*.)

=> Yes, I know, my new pic isn't much of a hack. :( But Who cares? *boom tish*

=> Woot! New pics for my tracks. :)

Advice to other musicians
The music is more than the sound. Plan out your tracks - know where you're going, and what you're going to do when you get there.

Notes about my music
I write in a wide range of styles, but tend to stay within three broad areas: techno/dance, orchestral, and pop (in that order).

Hypocrisy (About the Money) - Extended Edit

This track is a fantastic example of everything coming together perfectly. Melody, harmony, vocals, form: all are spot on. The track weighs in at a little over six minutes, which is about par for the genre. The introduction, at around a minute's length, is perhaps one of the best parts of the t

The artist says that this is Jarre-inspired, and that's apparent. I'll explain exactly why that's so as we move through the review. Before we go any further, though, here's a quick description of the track. Big, smooth, sweeping synth pads start the track, quickly joined by bright synth chord

In a way, this reminded me of Bach's Prelude (the famous one!), probably because of the extensive use of arpeggios (the fairly static [tonic dominant tonic'] movement in the bass provides the basis for this). This results in the melodic sections which tend to fall in the second half of the bar, le

Astounding. At times dramatic, at times tender, at times even lachrymose, but always sensitively played, this piece demonstrates both Jesse's amazing piano virtuosity, and his skill as a composer.

This is a solid, well-produced piece of music. It has a great blend of creative ideas, with the guitar riff really standing out. The bassline is solid, without being overwhelming, and the melodies are catchy and creatively written.
