1Overall Description
Very emotive, laid-back d&b that actually gives more of a Paul Van Dyk-style trance mood than a d&b mood. I also here hints of Starecase d&b style in this...it's very flowing and the bongo break-beat starting at 2:55 is brilliant, providing that d&b snare fill feeling while maintaining a trance/tribal-house hybrid vibe.

2Arrangement Description
My major gripes with this song have to do with a few things that make the song sound a bit incomplete (even though sample and section-wise this track is very well produced)
1) the lack of evolution in melodies (essentially sticking to 2 chords and one mood)...sounds a bit Nyje-ish that way although, at least subjectively, doing that sounds less secure in d&b or trance than it does in house. Note this is not the case with the drum lines, which has brilliant variations not just in the conga parts but also with the guitar-type riffs/hits around 4:30 and acid-type background synths at 1:00 both excentuating (sp.) and stressing certain parts of the percussion.
2) the lack of breakbeat-style cymbal 16th note hits to drive the beat to the next level of energy...this song sounds a bit like the intro to a Starecase d&b song, rather than a full song, because of this.

3Sound Quality Description
Absolutely polished, as one would expect from such a talented, experienced producer.

4Does it work as a piece of music Description
The melodic work lacks progression but the drum work and mood of the song sounds very poised, though not complete. This, however, is an oddly relaxing d&b song with a trancey vibe untypical of d&b, and definitely gives strong hints that this artist is "both" talented, interested in breaking new ground, and has the abilities to do so with confidence.

I believe it's 'accentuating' (okay, I cheated ;), and yes the multiple drumlines kick the snot out of anything else out there. Great review. I agree about the lack of melodic evolution being one of the drawbacks, but it's a sweet background piece that will manage to intrude on a conversation; e.g. "Wait, did you hear that kick-ass drum work there? Sorry, what were you saying?" followed by a snippety retort like "Men! hmph!"
