I put it all in by hand with a computer keyboard. And I guess I just get too lazy to alter all the velocities. *blush* I know Kontakt has the multiple layers, but one of the other slight issues that I have is that the velocity command in OpenMPT only has a resolution of 64, whereas the MIDI has 128. (I've submitted this as a feature request, though.) // Thanks for the listen! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. :)

Your orchestration skills are very impressive. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite artists. Keep this up! From what I saw in your dawn.it, you could benefit from modifying the velocities of each note (are you inputting music on keyboard or with MIDI input?). Many libraries (kontakt included, maybe) have different samples for different velocities, and using the different velocities will unleash another layer of realism. That's not so much an issue in this piece, though. This is very good! Your dissonances and resolutions are fantastic.

Wonderful! Maybe the "gong" is the main flaw, but it doesn't really matter. Violins and cellos are great!

Yes... I can see the dynamics is a very importan part - the idea, I think, is to build a groundswell of emotion to a climax - and I think - even as is with gong - this will do the trick - as I listened repeatedly the emotional aspect became the over-riding idea of the piece to me.

I will give it a shot, probably once I've fixed up the gong as C-H suggested. I'm just wary of compressing it, because I don't want to lose the dynamic variance.

Yes. Yes it is. :) I don't compress, just normalise, so I guess that's the problem.

Thanks for your honesty C-H. I'm glad you enjoyed the piece. Listening to it again myself, I can hear what you mean about the gong. It doesn't fit, does it? I think I might just take your suggestion and replace it with a cymbal... Thanks for the in-depth comment, too!

My guess is that it might be for a special someone....

I think it's beatiful as it is, and I cannot find anything to complain, even if I turn my criticism button to south-east.

I have to ask you: Why do you want to make this as good as possible, which parts are you less happy with?

I agree with slammy, bring up the mix if at all possible.

I'll be as honest as possible: this is a very nice piece. Quite delicate and even, I'd say "precieuse". [you'll look it up ;)] I wouldn't comment on your technical skills, I'm sure you're well aware of that now. My only "gripes" would be: I don't see it as a waltz. It reminds me of some concertos for oboes, composed by Mozart. Not in its sounding, but in its writting. And structure. Starting low and rising up, slowly. Almost, unnoticed. Very pleasant all the way if it wasn't for that.. gong! O_o. I find it.. like an alien coming from outter space. I think I get what kind of feel/sound you were after but.. still, doesn't seem right to me. Too "theatrical" maybe. It's the best adjective I can come up with, sorry for that. Maybe, it'd have been combined with a brighter cymbal, to mild the depth of this.. gong! But that's a very personal p.o.v. --- Amazing writting, Barry. And playing as well! Bravo, Maestro!

"Oh, my lady. Can I have this dance". Really fine feelings all the time. I hardly breathe when I listened this. It's lightweigt and airy.
