Artist's description:
For those who are not familiar with the Final Fantasy rpg series, shortly put, J-E-N-O-V-A is the main villain of Final Fantasy 7.

This piece is my arrangement of Jenovas theme originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

I rarely do remixes but this particular song has been on mind so long I decided to give it a try. There's already a bunch of great remixes of this song out there but the "heavy metal" versions by The Black Mages for example were somehow a little disappointing for me. So, my idea was to make a Jenova that rocks but still maintains that spacy and mysterious atmospere that goes with this character. I know my guitar playing isn't very good and the production could have been better but tell me how you liked this.

And lastly, the online play sucks pretty hard this time. Downloading is highly recommended. ;)

Contributors:
Mr. Nobuo Uematsu for composing this piece among other amazing tunes and also being a huge idol for me! :)

The website http://www.ffmusic.ffshrine.org for the sheet music.

I've got a lot of versions of this song, but this is one of the better remixes I've heard. I just wish that spacey part at the beginning was longer, it's great.

:) Yeah, I only had a quick glance at the sheet music and recorded almost everything from scratch by hand. So it's likely that there are a couple of notes that differ from the original score. My philosophy, when it comes to remixing, is not to imitate the original but to add my own little ideas to the arrangement and make it sound like me. Anyway, thanks for the comment and I'm glad you like it!

This is a very pleasant tune. I know the original very well and I just HAVE to point out that there were a few notes that sound wrong in my books compared to the original ;) But don't get offended by this, because I really like this cover! Makes me wanna plug in my guitar and start making some Mega Man covers.

I'm not a fan of FF, yet I've had friends playing it while I watched and they told me the story behind it. I did enjoy watching it, and some of the in-game musics were pretty nice. This mix however takes it into new dimension with the layers of guitar. Very nice work my young musician friend. Just like the FF series there in no ending and no limitations to your skills. You make us all proud.

Thanks for your comments clones! In fact I also like a bass sound with sharp high end but I didn't really think about it when doing this. I think I just wanted a solid and simple low end bass that enhances the kick drum. With a lot of instruments like layers of pads, guitars and leads playing at the same time, it's true that bass is propably the first instrument that gets run down...

Nice guitars indeed! I have not heard the original so I can't comment on how it relates. As a standalone piece it works as you intended going by the description. What I think you did well was blend the metal guitar and drum work into a symphonic space rock main body. You may not be playing blinding leads here but I don't know if that would have added to the piece anyway. If there is anything I'd suggest is a bass sound with some more high end. In prog rock often the bass had a high end - Chris Squire and Greg Lake I think are two good examples. When the bass is by itself it sounds good but I tend to lose it in the mix - perhaps that is the modern metal thing and I'm all wet?

Absolutely incredible :D It's been a while since I played FFVII, but this captures the essence of the soundtrack and throws on a nice layer of GUITARS!! >:)

Here is an original MIDI file from the PC version of the game: http://ffmusic.ffshrine.org/ff7midis/ff7-2-14-j-e-n-o-v-a.mid The PSX version is similar but the sound may be slightly different.

What progressive metal bands often do is that they sacrifice atmosphere or harmony for the sake of musical virtuosity, which is something that I don't like to see. And fortunately, this is the exact opposite of the above mentioned situation. An ideal example of how a very good balance was found and one of the best tunes in this genre. Who needs perfect sound if the tune is this good? 5 stars dude.

LoL! :D I think Finntroll would like it better if the lead was played by accordions...

Wow, you managed to make collaboration of Final Fantasy and heavy metal. Cool play, and this sounds good on my laptop-speakers. Very powerful leadguitar/synth, man, you rock ! Have you suggested this tune to Finntroll ? =)
