Artist's description:
DISCLAIMER:
THIS IS NOT the song heard in the game of the same title, but an early draft. For more information about "The Spirit Engine 2" soundtrack check www.syntesis.org THIS SONG REMAINS as a part of the Trax in Space archive.

This is one of the last pieces I've written for The Spirit Engine 2. I'm not intending on keeping it up here for very long, because I plan on selling the soundtrack. The main motivation for sharing was that I felt the theme of this piece really mixes in with things going on here at Trax in Space. We're all one people, so let's get along and stop the bickering. This is long and the volumes could use some work, so it's still a draft.

Thanks! That page is great, an excellent playlist to play while studying. I am impressed by the choirs in the new version of this song, I suppose they are Symphonic Choirs? But still, I know how hard it is to work in word builder, I never really managed. Great work.

Thanks for the feedback. I wish I had those resources (; Anyway, I mistyped, they are Uilleann Pipes (similar, albeit). The drone was a thought I had too, but not so good in practice. :P

Now, I know you spent a long time on the choirs, but I would dearly love to hear this sung by a real choir. :) The bagpipes at the end are good, but I missed a drone. Still, this is a very good track, even if it is only a draft. Great work as always.

Please, would you mind to teach me how you do this great stuff? ;) Piano intro is fantastic! Great work, Twi.

Well, it was mostly for the bagpipe arrangement. (:

"Thanks again, Josh." - Lol, the way the line breaks were removed from these two lines made it sound like you were calling me Josh. I got a bit confused there for a minute. ;) Thanks for the credit, though pointing out a virtual instrument to use hardly merits that kind of honor, in my opinion. :)

For those interested I added a screenshot of the choir bit as I was assembling it.

Wow. Thanks for the mindblurt. This is actually a different track than "A Lost Dream," and it is a draft (: I fixed up ALD a few months ago to address many of the issues that really bothered me, and this last month leading up to the release is when I'm going to try to do as many tweaks throughout as I can. That said, the soundtrack isn't PERFECT. You'll definitely be able to, with trained ears, discern the use of samples. Sometimes it's intended, othertimes it's not. Anyway, Symphonic Choirs DOES eat a lot of ram. To effectively use it hear I bounced my orchestra bit to a wave and started a new project for the choir section. I could really only use two voices at a time, and I had to do close and far micing separately. As for the RA articulations, I'm fairly pleased with how they turned out. If you're referring to the Duduk they are the same phrase in the beginning and end bits. As for the Djembe and other percussion, I just sort of got a loop that got me into a groove. I thought that was more important than using varied samples in this case. Hehe, novels deserve grand responses. Thanks for the feedback and I will take a look at the grand scheme when my ears aren't so familiar with this piece to do more tampering. Thanks again, Josh. (ps I got your name in the Special Thanks of the game for your help with this track. Lord knows I wouldn't have even thought to invest in RA without your stunning example).

Crap, that turned into one big wall of text. There's supposed to be line breaks in there, but you'll just have to take my word for it. :p

Wow, this track sure has evolved since last I heard it. :) I'm glad you're tweaking the track though, because it does need it if you want to go commercial with it. Don't get me wrong, you've done a fantastic job with it, but there are areas that could do with a little more, well, "realism". You've already pointed out the most important one yourself; the choirs. I barely ever use EWQL Symphonic Choirs any more, mostly because it eats RAM for breakfast, but also because the WordBuilder is unstable on my computer. Even if I could use it with any regularity, I'd probably be frustrated at the incredible patience and skill needed to make the slurs sound realistic. Even the official demos from EastWest have some trouble with this. The second thing you might want to take a look at is the use of articulations with Ra. I heard some very unique articulations being repeated enough that I became far too aware that they were samples. These are just nitpicks in the grand scheme of things. You've got a great tune here, but you've set your ambitions for it so high that it's not going to be easy to perfect it. :) I'm really looking forward to the Play version of EWQL Symphonic Choirs so I can start using WordBuilder without fear of crashing. I love choirs, which makes it doubly frustrating that I can hardly use them.

So I've touched up the chorus for the next version so they speak something more understandable and not so disconnected. EWQLSO is a stunning tool but it takes 3 hours just to perfect (not including writing it out the first time) a simple line such as this. Of course, this is one of the first pieces I've really worked with extensively on (can you count Bonesaw Overdrive?). I was using "E ver" for evermore, and so I fixed it to "ev ur" which sounds so much more natural and slurs better. I made the dipthong in "one" a bit more rehashed as well. Another issue was getting some timings right, so I moved things around. These are all things to expect when you purchase the soundtrack (; (or at least pay for the song $.99 hahaha) on July 30thish. (Hey, gotta make money somehow)

The choirs are a separate package, but yes they are East West QL Symphonic Choirs. I just had a fresh listen to this today and I can definitely hear some things that need a lot of tweaking in the middle section. I'm glad I marked this as a draft. Thanks for all the comments ! :D

Wow! Great progressive arrangement with the outstanding theme from "A Lost Dream". I can already imagine this playing during the ending credits of SE2. What do you use for the choirs, East West Symphonic Orch...?

Yea.. I don't give out 5 stars much, but this is magnificent. Perfect for final conflict or epilogue scenes. The female choir voice sends chills down my spine, and that last bagpipe arrangement is just beautiful. Top Notch Job

Josh, have you seriously considered doing this for a living? I hope so, because I think you could be scoring big games and even motion pictures one day if you continue on this path. But, it's a good idea to stay in school anyways, just in case. :) Great song, and very inspiring.
